The Red Guide to Temping in NYC has a number of REVIEWS of temp agencies. As far as we know, these REVIEWS seem on the up and up even though they don't match our experiences with the reviewed agencies (the reviews at Red Guide are also dated, the guy behind the site doesn't appear to live in NYC anymore). The reviews/comments at www.tempnyc.com simply seem to be made up or copied from other sites.

In general, reviews, comments, and/or feedback on agencies should be taken with a grain of salt. Every temp agency has its idea about "WHAT KIND OF TEMP THEY WANT". There are a lot of agencies that don't want Black temps, especially the ones suppling people to investment banks. This is the reality of the temp world in NYC. So, if you are not Black, a review or comment from Blacks who were rejected by an agency is not really going to do you any good.

AND ON THE SUBJECT OF RATES, it is just a waste of time to list rates for agencies, because every agency will decide how much it wants to pay you on an individual basis. If you assume that every temp in the city has a different rate, you would not be very far off.

What temps really need to know about temp agencies is (1) which ones have work; (2) which ones have a habit of missing payroll; (3) what is the registration process for agencies; and maybe (4) what kind of clients the agency has if you are looking to work in a specific industry or for a specific company.
