You get to do basically nothing for up to 12 hours and you can make as much as $35.00 regular time (and are almost guaranteed to work about 24 hours on weekends at time and one half).
Heaven, right? Well, it may sound like heaven. But once you have worked in enough word processing centers, you will come to see the situation as being trapped in a room full of idiots, trolls and dumbass actors for up to 12 hours with no escape.
I have ACTUALLY turned down the opportunity to work in a word processing center for more money in favor of working directly with lawyers and bankers on second shift. Why? Because everyone should know by now that word processing centers are very unstable. These places go through a lot of temps because the work does not matter. You get idiots who someone for some reason made a supervisor and they are generally stupid, hard-up and make no money. Therefore these “word processing center supervisors” are generally, for the most part, looking either for (a) someone to date and or have sex with; (b) getting kickbacks from some temp agency in exchange for allowing that agency’s temps to sit in the center and sleep; and/or (c) just in general looking for someone further down on the corporate food chain than they are so that they can have someone to piss on.
If you are offered the opportunity to work second shift directly for attorneys or bankers, take it. If you hear someone offer this to another temp, kill that temp and take it. In my opinion, this is THE best gig in town.
