At the pres center i work in, things have changed massively in the past year.

First off, about a year and a half ago, they cut about 3/4 of the staff, perms and temps. It happened in several big cuts.

Then, looking for ways to cut costs further, they opened up pres centers in INDIA, where they could fax the work and pay them a LOT LESS for doing it than they were paying people in NYC.

Right now, the pres center is in a weird flux. there are few people on each shift. many of the people are being turned into "liaisons", who basically do the same job but work directly with the bankers. with less flexibility with schedule.

so, the pres center that was once teeming with "actors" and other artistic types is all but vanished from this company. (don't know if it still exists elsewhere.) it's quite poorly managed and much more unbearable...
